‘see also’ is a set of compressed images and feelings, collected during the artistic research of war images by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It focuses on burnt-out, compressed, pixelated, and blurred images, and tries to reveal the nature of those artifacts caused by distorted perception systems, the logic of war-time (self)censorship, and the politics of digital platforms.
At the same time, focusing on these types of images is an attempt to decompress emotions instrumentalized by cyberwar sensorium. This instrumentalization is caused by the continuing emotional labor of Ukrainians to maintain their/our own collectivity and the permanent "interest" in the war among the global community, taking into account the social media community guidelines, ubiquitous orientation on engagement metrics, and opacity of algorithmic policies.
‘see also’ has been developed within the framework of the transmediale x Pro Helvetia residency 2022.
